Acorns Class
Acorns Class is our Early Years and KS1 class and in the morning it splits into two classes. Nursery and Reception are then taught by Mrs Fennell (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) or Mrs Denwood (Thursday and Friday), and Year One and Two (KS1) are taught by Miss Wilson. In the afternoon, they become one unit, taught by Miss Wilson.
Our classroom has been recently redesigned and refurbished and we are really proud to have created a brand new learning environment that is welcoming, engaging and exciting for the children to explore and thrive. There are dedicated spaces in the classroom to develop all areas of learning, with spaces for construction, role play, maths, creative art and design, writing and mark making, exploration of the world and quiet areas for reading or being calm.
Everything that our youngest children can explore inside the classroom is also replicated in our wonderful outdoor area and our Nursery and Reception children spend much of their time exploring outdoors, whatever the weather, thanks to our complete set of outdoor wet weather clothing. The children love to explore and learn using bikes, water, sand, large construction, the mud kitchen, climbing equipment, chalk boards and all of the equipment and resources in our outdoor learning sheds. The children also explore the rest of our brilliant outdoor area, climbing the muddy bank, exploring the woodland path and visiting the pond.
Nursery and Reception children follow the Early Years Framework for their learning experiences and Year 1 and 2 follow the National Curriculum, sometimes learning together as a group, but usually splitting into smaller groups in order to learn at the appropriate level for their age and stage. Phonics learning begins as soon as the children begin Reception using our phonics programme, Read Write Inc, but those children who attend our Nursery begin to experience elements of this in the term before they begin Reception, meaning they can get off to a really strong start straight away!
